{"id":56429,"date":"2025-06-25T11:57:26","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T10:57:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/artmag.co.uk\/?p=56429"},"modified":"2025-06-25T11:57:29","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T10:57:29","slug":"whispered-revolutions-mercedes-azpilicueta-at-edinburghs-collective","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artmag.co.uk\/whispered-revolutions-mercedes-azpilicueta-at-edinburghs-collective\/","title":{"rendered":"Whispered Revolutions: Mercedes Azpilicueta at Edinburgh&#8217;s Collective"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Edinburgh&#8217;s <strong>Collective<\/strong> arts centre\u00a0has launched its exhibition\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/art.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=9c3956b93b2457fa432804d8c&amp;id=acae983996&amp;e=652a3956f4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Fire on the Mountain, Light on the Hill<\/em><\/a>, by leading visual and performance artist <strong>Mercedes Azpilicueta<\/strong> \u2013 the first solo show in Scotland for the Amsterdam-based Argentinean artist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Centred around a giant Jacquard tapestry, <em>Potatoes, Riots and Other Imaginaries<\/em> (see below), the piece incorporates a soundtrack of whispered gossip and glimpses of songs from social demonstrations, weaving together historic and contemporary themes inspired by Azpilicueta&#8217;s research of the 1917 Potato Riots in the Jordaan neighbourhood of Amsterdam, where she is now based.
